Missy Hymel, LOTR, CHT, CKTP Owner

Missy is a Nationally Board Certified Licensed Occupational Therapist Registered (LOTR), Nationally Board Certified Hand Therapist (CHT), Certified Kinesiotaping Practitioner (CKTP) and a Certified i-limb Prosthestics Practitioner with over 30 years of experience in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation. She has been the Owner of Accelerated Hand Solutions, LLC since May 2012. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from The University of Louisiana at Monroe in 1990. In 1996, she completed a six month hand therapy fellowship with prominent Hand Surgeons and Certified Hand Therapists in the New Orleans area. From 1985 - 1987, she attended Louisiana State University for pre-occupational therapy and played clarinet in The Golden Band from Tigerland for two years.

Specialties and Certifications


In November 2001, she met the Hand Therapy Certification Commission (HTCC) requirements and became a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT). She became a Certified Kinesiotaping Practitioner (CKTP) in 2003. In 2013, she became a Certified i-limb Touch Bionics Prosthetic Trainer working with individuals that have lost a limb (hand, finger or arm) teaching them how to use a static or dynamic prosthesis to gain function.

Interests and Areas of Expertise


Her interest include: fractures, tendon/nerve lacerations, burns/wound management, amputations, prosthetic training, kinesiotaping, multi-system complex injuries of the upper extremity, and custom orthosis/splint fabrication.

Missy has presented a variety of topics at local and state conferences -Louisiana Occupational Therapy Association (LOTA) and Louisiana American Society of Hand Therapist (LA-ASHT). She is an active member in her related professional organizations - LOTA and American Society of Hand Therapist (ASHT). She was the former co-owner of Advanced Hand Specialists from 2005-2010 and has been practicing on the Northshore for over 16 years.

Personally, she has been married for 23 years to Stephen Hymel, RN, BSN who is Registered Nurse in the Medical Sales Industry. Stephen has played an intrical part in helping establish the clinic and been very "handy" with keeping the facility running. Together, Missy and Stephen have a daughter Jordan who is attending USM for Nursing and a son Jared who is attending LSU for Engineering. Missy enjoys spending time with her family and leaving a legacy of memories with her scrapbooks she enjoys making. Missy is also very creative, crafty and enjoys decorating her home and the clinic for the various holidays.

Stephanie has a Masters of Occupational Therapy (MOT) is a Nationally Board Certified Licensed Occupational Therapist Registered (LOTR) and a Nationally Board Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) with over 10 years in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation. She has been employed with Accelerated Hand Solutions since January 2013 and has worked closely with Missy on the Northshore since 2009. She received her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge in 2007. In 2010, she completed her Master of Occupational Therapy from Louisiana State University Health Science Center (LSUHSC) in New Orleans.

Stephanie realized her passion for hand therapy after completing a 3 month hand therapy internship on the Northshore in 2009. Professionally, she was mentored by Missy from 2010 - 2015 while achieving the steps to become a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) which included over 4,000 hours in direct practice experience in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation. In November 2015, she met the Hand Therapy Certification Commission (HTCC) certification requirements and became a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT).

Interests and Areas of Expertise


Her interests include basal joint (thumb) arthritis, wrist injuries, fractures, boutonniere deformities, tendon injuries, nerve injuries, wound care, custom orthosis/splint fabrication, and kinesiotaping. Stephanie also plays an integral role in the clinic as the Senior Staff Therapist supervising professional staff and support staff and assisting with administrative duties of the clinic.

Stephanie enjoys making a difference in people’s lives by increasing their independence and function with daily tasks. She often uses her creativity in the clinic challenging patient's to meet their goals.

Personally, she was married in May 2019 to Ryan McCloskey who is also in the medical field as a Registered Nurse and a Professor of Nursing at SLU. Stephanie enjoys working on home projects, sewing, traveling, and spending time with Ryan, with her brother Brett and her supportive parents Chris and Gwen Accardo.

Jordan has a Masters of Occupational Therapy (MOT) is a Nationally Board Certified Licensed Occupational Therapy Registered (LOTR), and is a Certified Neurodevelopmental Therapist with a treatment approach for patients with Strokes and Traumatic Brain injuries and has over 6 years of experience. She is also certified in LSVT BIG which is treatment for patients with Parkinson disease. She has been employed with Accelerated Hand Solutions since June of 2018. She received her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge in 2011. In 2014, she completed her Master of Occupational Therapy from Louisiana State University Health Science Center (LSUHSC) in New Orleans.

Jordan realized her passion for treatment of patients with neurodevelopmental disorders while in school and while working in an inpatient rehabilitation setting. She became certified in LSVT BIG which is a specialized treatment approach for patients with Parkinson disease. This treatment approach focuses on increasing the amplitude of movement, and the recalibration of perceived movements of this patient population. She then became certified in the Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT) which involves working with patients that may have had a stroke and/or traumatic brain injury. The NDT treatment approach is a holistic approach using manual techniques to facilitate the desired movement and function with the use of meaningful functional tasks for patients.

Jordan completed a three month intensive hand therapy fellowship at AHS from June 2018 - September 2018 and was mentored Stephanie and Missy. She is eligible to take the National Board Certified Hand Therapy examination in November of 2020.

Jordan enjoys making a difference in her patients’ lives, using holistic treatment approaches to help them regain their functional independence.

Personally, she is married to Matthew Follis who is in the Finance field and is currently working for M6 Partners as a chief financial officer. Jordan and Matthew welcomed a new baby boy named Michael into their lives in March 2019. Jordan enjoys spending time with her husband and son, her sister Ryan and her supportive parents David and Lisa Hickey.

Tess has a Masters of Occupational Therapy (MOT) and is a Nationally Board Certified Licensed Occupational Therapist Registered (LOTR) with over 8 years of occupational therapy experience. She joined Accelerated Hand Solutions in January, 2020. In 2009, she received her Bachelor of Music Therapy with concentration in Vocal Studies from Loyola University of New Orleans. In 2012, she received her Masters of Occupational from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHC) in New Orleans.

Tess has over 8 years of experience in treating patients across the lifespan in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Most of her career has been in the hospital setting where she gained specialized experience with: stroke patients, acute orthopedic trauma, generalized deconditioning/illness, burns, amputations, neonatal intensive care, early intervention with children, lymphedema management, and total joint replacements. While working in the hospital setting, she was often consulted on acute hand injuries and was able to work closely with the hand surgeons to effectively treat these patients and prepare them for discharge to the next level of care. Tess is currently taking the active steps of becoming a certified hand therapist (CHT) which include 4,000 hours of direct practice experience in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation under the mentorship of our senior certified hand therapists.

Interests and Areas of Expertise


Her interests include edema management, arthritis, and nerve injuries. She is passionate about restoring function, conserving energy/pain management, and maximizing quality of life to get her patients back to participating in meaningful activities!

Personally, she has been married to Nick Danos since 2013 who currently works for Chevron as a Health, Safety and Environmental Specialist on the Northshore. Tess and her family moved to Mandeville from Thibodaux in January, 2020. They have 3 dogs: Cece, Nola & Jazz; 3 children: Brody (5), Quinn (2); and welcomed their new baby boy Christian in July 2020! Tess enjoys spending her time with her family, singing, playing guitar, fishing, exercising and being outdoors.

Tess is currently out on maternity leave but has plans to return to full time employment with AHS in October 2020.
